Amy C. Lockwood, DNP, AGACNP-BC is a Nurse Practitioner with over 17 years of experience in Emergency Medicine and currently serves as an integral part of the leadership team within Penn Medicine. She started her work in the medical field as a certified nursing assistant caring for long-term care patients while simultaneously receiving a Bachelor of Science Nursing degree from Widener University. After working in various medical-surgical units across the country, Amy pursued her master’s degree from University of Pennsylvania as a Nurse Practitioner. Upon completing this degree, she followed her passion for Emergency Medicine and quickly became part of the leadership team at Penn Medicine, managing more than 40 Advanced Providers as direct reports. Her domain has expanded to cover 3 different hospitals within Penn Medicine. As her career progressed, Amy recognized the immense benefits of research and recently obtained her Doctorate in Nursing Practice from Widener University. Amy is board certified in both Adult Health and Adult/Gerontology Acute Care.
Along with her full-time position at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania Emergency Department, Amy is also part-time faculty at multiple academic schools of nursing in the city of Philadelphia. Amy’s educational, research and clinical experiences show her diverse skillset and knowledge base. Her various successes include the initiation of the first Advanced Practice staffed Emergency Department Observation Unit at Penn Medicine, assisting and redesigning ED work flows to decrease patient wait times, and piloting a Covid short stay pathway in the Emergency Department and Observation Unit.
In her spare time, she enjoys reading, hiking, travelling, and spending time with her family.
